The Opportunity
NJR have been retained to recruit a new Sales Director by a high-profile company providing services to UK SMEs. Reporting to a successful and experienced CEO this role will lead the Sales function as well as playing a key part within the senior leadership team, but beyond this, we are certainly looking for someone who can bring fresh ideas to add to the ongoing digital transformation and then implement the agreed strategy across a sizeable national field sales team (you’ll be ably supported by one direct report here – a strong tactical executer) as well as evolving the internal sales function (also one direct report).
We anticipate the market for our client’s solutions and services will remain strong however currently some of this appears untapped so your expertise will likely open new channels as well as drive efficiencies elsewhere. To do so you’ll work closely with other members of the leadership team who’ll help you develop and take the proposition to the next stage, such as with regards to Marketing and Product. Typically, the teams are selling a high volume, relatively low-price offering, such that new and repeat sales are both important to the company’s success.
The Person
To be considered you will:
> be a successful and inspirational Director or C-Suite sales professional, of graduate calibre, used to leading and developing a substantial field sales team (at least 50 headcount, ideally more) and internal sales contact centre, via your direct reports
> be strategically sharp with a broad commercial acumen, possessing clear digital expertise (perhaps you’ve been responsible for leading sales digital transformation in your current or previous role) – you’ll certainly know how to use technology / digital to win and retain customers – likely evolving slightly away from face-to-face selling to maximise the levers of today’s ‘online, always-connected, world’
> have experience in B2B selling services of some kind, however it is likely you’ll also have good B2C experience, particularly regarding field sales teams with perhaps an element of commission-only representatives (nevertheless sector experience isn’t our primary focus)
likely some experience working with or within SMEs and thus be empathetic to this key part of UK Plc
> be a self-sufficient, completer-finisher used to delivering to budget and over-achieving against targets but equally we expect you’ll be a confident collaborator able to get the best from your peers when working together to build strategy and product propositions
> be innovative with a strong commercial and financial acumen – able to develop and coherently present business cases to support your strategy – this is somewhat a ‘greenfield’ opportunity to make a significant impact on the future success of the company
> probably have experience of Salesforce as a key tool for your teams – perhaps you might even have been part involved in an implementation before
> have an understanding of how affiliate sales can be utilised as part of a digital strategy, ideally with proven experience ramping this up to deliver additional, profitable revenues; more broadly, you’ll be competent with MS Office
> demonstrate clear numerical and analytical competence coupled with excellent verbal and written communication skills as well as proven organisational skills
> be a strong influencer with exceptional listening and communication skills who can, as appropriate, utilise coaching, training and performance management to support your people
> likely have a business qualification such as a MBA and / or be a member of a professional body (e.g. CIM)
Compensation
An attractive six figure remuneration, consisting of a strong basic salary coupled with a broad and flexible benefits package, including car allowance, and a competitive STIP paying an annual performance related bonus up to 50% of basic salary.
Location
Remote.
You will be based anywhere in the UK, comfortable working remotely from your home office but with regular UK travel in support of your regionally based teams and for meetings at Head Office. You must have a full, valid, UK driving licence as a consequence of the required travel.
