Our Client provides essential products and research services for pharmaceutical, crop protection, and chemical companies as well as public sector, and other research organizations. They have an immediate requirement for an Interim Logistics & Supply Chain Consultant.
The ideal candidate will understand logistics in the areas of food, dairy, livestock etc and will be dynamic and energetic and able to hit stretching KPIs.

Scope of project
Evaluate all product groups and flows
UK and mainland European sites
- In-house and outsourced
Site operations
- Identify cost of service drivers
- Best practices to improve productivity
- Opportunities from facility and/or process consolidation
Transport operations
- Flow management
- Negotiation of existing contract costs
- In-house vs outsourced split of operations
- Maximising value for money and resource utilisation
Key Objectives
- Execute a number of quick wins – already started but ensure these deliverables continue to be optimized
- Review current hybrid model of own/third party fleet with full outsourced option
- Separate outsourced options to be evaluated for UK/Europe
- Retender the logistics operation with the support of Procurement
- Consolidate management of total fleet (Europe)
- Planning and scheduling activities to be handed over to the outsourced provider(s)
- Deliver 4 days a week (Europe) with twice weekly intercompany trunking to improve vehicle utilisation.
- Move from ‘fixed routes’ which are unviable to weekly scheduled routes
- Maintain current distribution hub network (no central DC option)
- Ensure updates to the JDE System in order to provide timely activity and cost information and link in with 3 PL’s systems
- Develop a Cost to Serve model and to use it to assess the quality of both existing and new business and provide input into the Delivery Promise with the support of Customer Services
- Introduce Delivery Promise based on Customer Segmentation in both areas of business
- Align Sales and Supply Chain KPI’s and relevant performance KPI’s in conjunction with Procurement
- Recruit Logistics Manager
- Develop Contractor Management process
Time Lines and KPI’s
Deliver overall annualised savings of minimum $1.4m during the 12 month programme within the following timescales:
2 months
- Deliveries (fixed cost) UK – rescheduling across 5 days per week and refined scheduling
- Actions to change specific customer delivery days, so enabling unnecessary journeys to be cut
6 months
- Market review of 3PL partners – possible consolidation
- Deliveries (variable costs) – improved scheduling
12 months
- deliveries (fixed cost) Europe – improved scheduling and delivery of customer promise
- Reduction in final mile delivery for other areas
