Business Development Director – Commercial Property Construction

Overview:

We have been retained to recruit a Business Development Director, by a well-established, highly-regarded, successful and profitable main contractor construction group primarily working with large blue-chip corporate customers in the retail and distribution space, on a repeat project basis.

With profitable projected turnover this year of c.£50m the Board have the ambition to double this over the next few years; at present direct group headcount is c.80 with total team size, including sub-contractors, typically around 500.

They are now seeking to appoint a Business Development Director, reflecting their desire for the business to continue growing and taking their expertise to new customers, particularly in the retail and distribution sectors, for which they’ve already a superb reputation. Part of the leadership team, this key strategic appointment, a new role, will report to the Board and will be focused on bringing new business opportunities and contract wins to the company.

The Role:

  • Host and attend regular Business Development meetings and brief the Board, on a monthly basis, as to progress made on expanding the customer base of the business
  • Organise, host and attend client entertainment events to develop client relationships
  • Maintain regular contact with the key decision makers of client and prospect organisations; always seeking to develop and enhance relationships with new project opportunities in mind
  • Act as liaison between clients and the business so that the company is always aware of the changing needs and expectations of the client
  • Contribute to the development and progression of employees and manage business development talent within the business

Person Profile:

The successful individual will:

  • Be a self-starter with a proven knowledge of the commercial property market in London and the South-East of England
  • Be confident dealing with people at all levels internally and externally from on site teams, to client representatives at board level; have a sociable personality that facilitates strong relationship building
  • Have a professional demeanour – able to represent the business appropriately at all times
  • Be commercially aware with an ability to manage, maintain and balance the competing interests of the business and of clients
  • Be experienced with, and capable of, driving a bid team and undertaking pre-construction planning
  • Be prepared to travel

Remuneration: Compelling total compensation, including company car or allowance, strong OTE and benefits to attract top talent

Location:  Hybrid – blended working between office (Buckinghamshire HQ) and home office with UK travel, as required
