General Manager

NJR have been exclusively retained by Tuckwell Chase Lottery to recruit a new Director as their General Manager to lead this small enterprise into its next phase. The current director is retiring following more than 15 years’ service.

The Company

Tuckwell Chase Lottery is a joint fundraising venture between Phyllis Tuckwell Hospice and Shooting Star Children’s Hospices. All profits are shared between the two charities. The two hospices need to raise a combined sum of over £20 million per year to continue to offer their services and support. Tuckwell Chase Lottery members provide a crucial and stable income for both hospices.

The Opportunity

Would you like to use your broad business and commercial acumen to lead the lottery and therefore provide much needed funds to enhance the lives of children and adults receiving care from two exceptional hospice providers? Then this could be perfect for you!

Ultimately this role and the small team it leads make a significant difference. We are looking for a flexible, commercial, innovative and engaging ‘people-person’, comfortable in a small company environment.

The position will be based in their Farnham, Surrey office and will lead a small cross-functional team (consisting in-house of Marketing, Finance and Operations resources supported by additional outsourced capability), reporting to the Board of Directors, which includes Trustees and Chief Executives of the two hospice groups.

You will bring fresh perspective to the organisation and continue its valuable work, so that the Lottery continues to be a successful income stream for the causes it supports.

Primary responsibilities include:

Responsible for all aspects of the management of this SME and the leadership of the team
Create and provide strategic direction for the company
Maximise growth of the lottery through new member acquisition and member retention programmes; more broadly lead marketing programmes including digital / social media
Data Analysis – such as campaign reviews, ROI etc
Manage relationships with external stakeholders such as the hospices, fundraising companies, auditors and social media agencies
Prepare and agree annual budgets – be responsible for company profitability
Report to the Board on a quarterly basis
In conjunction with bookkeeper, prepare monthly accounts
Ensure compliance with conditions of Gambling Commission Licence
Review, Amend or Create Policies in line with Gambling Commission, Fundraising Regulator and GDPR requirements
Candidate Profile

The successful ‘hands-on’ individual will demonstrate the following experience and attributes:

Strong commercial acumen with broad business experience
Owning the P & L within previous roles as well as good Budget experience
Some SME company experience is preferred but certainly having a ‘sleeves rolled-up’ approach is required
Excellent decision-making aptitude
A ‘people-person’ with good leadership, management and communication skills
Marketing expertise would be beneficial but a creative outlook is essential
Empathetic to the cause in support of the hospices and aligned to charitable values
Supportive, self-motivated, enthusiastic, pro-active, flexible and resilient
Able to work independently, as well as being a team player
Comfortable with business systems including Microsoft Office (particularly beneficial would be data analysis in Excel)

Remuneration

Salary to £55,000 commensurate with experience.
