Out of the Box Thinking for Insurethebox

The Challenge

Insure The Box Limited launched in June 2010 with its first product; insurethebox, and is the UK’s largest telematics (or black box) insurance provider, now holding over 3 billion miles of driving data and associated claims. As well as insurethebox and drive like a girl (another Insure The Box brand) it also administers other telematics offerings.

Insurethebox has pioneered telematics-based car insurance. By fitting an ‘in-tele-box’ into a car, the company can base its insurance premiums on meaningful data such as how safely someone drives; incorporating things like the time of day or night they drive, their speed on different sorts of roads, whether they brake or accelerate sharply or take breaks on long journeys. Such insight together with motorway miles, total mileage and number of journeys, provides a rich picture of the potential customer, so that more cost effective premiums are offered to safer drivers.

With everyone shopping around for insurance, a business built on this model had huge potential. However, the insurance arena is highly competitive.  Insurethebox needed to fend off competitors and quickly capitalise on the fresh appeal of its approach. That meant being able to flex up its team fast.

The Solution

Insurethebox approached Norrie Johnston Recruitment with an initial brief to find a Group Head of HR. Rex took the brief and drawing on his considerable Insurance / Financial Services recruitment sector experience working with ambitious brands and complex organisations such as Direct Line, RBS Insurance, XL Insurance, Legal & General, American Express, and RSA he set to work. Within a few weeks the role was filled. This gave Insurethebox the confidence to give NJR further briefs. Rex has also been instrumental in shaping the expanding Senior Management Team at Insurethebox having also been retained to find their Chief Financial Officer, Claims Director, Head of Compliance, HR Business Partner in addition to providing high quality Interim Managers.

Thanks in part to highly responsive and rapid recruitment support from NJR, Insurethebox has been able the grasp the market opportunity as a result it has in excess of a 50% share of the UK telematics market.
