Curtin&Co

The Challenge

Curtin&Co, the political lobbying consultancy, needed a hands-on, Interim Finance Director to provide 10 months of cover while the firm’s existing FD was on maternity leave.

Specialising in the fields of planning and community consultation, Curtin&Co works with national housebuilders, as well commercial developers to gain planning consent.  It was reluctant to spend a huge fee with a recruitment agency given the interim nature of the role.  So it turned to the web and put the brief out to a number of agencies, including NJR.

The Solution

NJR’s specialist SME service is specifically designed to help small and mid-sized companies with their senior executive recruitment. The NJR team quickly took a detailed brief and advised Curtin&Co on how to position the role and package in order to reach the best possible candidates.

NJR recognised that not only did Curtin&Co need to be seen as a strong employer brand with potential senior Interim candidates, but also the culture of the company had to be carefully communicated.  Like most consultancies, Curtin&Co is a people business. Its team includes ex-politicians and planning experts. It was vital that the personality of the Interim Finance Director gelled with the rest of the senior team, and the organisation as a whole.

Within 2 weeks of taking the brief, NJR had created a shortlist of 3 handpicked candidates and shortly after this the perfect candidate was in place.

Catherine Senda, Managing Director at Curtin&Co said: “NJR’s SME service took the brief quickly and provided the experience, calibre and personality of candidates we were looking for.”

“Given that this is a significant investment for a company of our size, our priority was to ensure they met that criteria with their excellent candidate.”

“I would be very happy to work with Rex and the team again and would have no hesitation in recommending them.”
